Barley Mow W1

There’s a dart board at the back left of the pub. But this doesn’t even tell part of the story as to why this is such a great place to throw darts.

Firstly, this is one of the finest pubs in London, and a must for any history-pub lover. It is more than 230 years old and contains two private drinking booths, just as it would have done when George III was king-boss.

Secondly, it’s independent.

And, thirdly, and most importantly, it has its own dedicated darts space, which clearly contains a whole lot of darts love – not least as the home of the Alex Becket darts league, which has been running since 2017 (see website for more). The standard game here is winner stays on, and the league seems to be permanently full. It is clear that a lot of people care about this place.

The only downside is that it is such a fab place to drink that it gets very busy, and the board therefore has limited availability after 5pm and at weekends. With enough people, you can probably reserve the whole back section (as someone had on my 2026 visit). Or, just get there early.

Been to this pub?

Tell us when you last played there, so we know the board is still up – and do leave any interesting (clean!) stories while you’re at it.
