Barley Mow W1

There’s a dart board at the back left of the pub, but that doesn’t even tell part of the story as to why this is such a great place to throw darts.

Firstly, this is one of the finest pubs in London, and a must for any history-pub lover. It is more than 230 years old and contains two private drinking booths, just as it would have done when George III was king-boss.

Secondly, it’s independent.

And most importantly, thirdly, it has its own dedicated darts space, which clearly contains a whole lot of darts love – not least as the home of the Alex Becket darts league, which has been running since 2017 – check out the website for more. The standard game here is winner stays on, and the league was full when I visited late in 2024. It is clear that a lot of people care about this place.

The only downside is that it is such a fab place to drink that it gets very busy, and the board therefore has limited availability after 5pm (hence the 4 star rating). I suggest you get there early.

Been to this pub?

Tell us when you last played there, so we know the board is still up – and do leave any interesting (clean!) stories while you’re at it.
